Legislation addresses critical highway safety issues, including drunk driving
Washington, D.C. — Today Mothers Against Drunk Driving applauds the leadership of House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Peter DeFazio and Highways and Transit Subcommittee Chairwoman Eleanor Holmes Norton for ensuring that road safety is a top priority in the INVEST Act.
“MADD thanks Chairman DeFazio and Chairwoman Norton for leading the way on road safety in the INVEST Act,” said MADD National President Helen Witty. “We believe that provisions included in this legislation will help lead to the elimination of drunk driving.”
The INVEST Act makes road safety a priority by providing almost $4 billion over five years for traffic safety, including programs to stop drunk driving. The legislation strengthens traffic safety requirements for states and increases transparency of states’ performance in meeting annual safety goals and use of program funds.
