Today, at MADD’s 45th Anniversary events, we witnessed more than just a technological breakthrough—we witnessed a moment of promise. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced it will soon recognize impairment detection technology in its vehicle safety ratings, Seeing Machines unveiled its advanced alcohol impairment detection capabilities, and the Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS) Program announced it will complete the final design package of their alcohol detection technology this year that enables manufacturers to make it widely available for commercial vehicles. These milestones push the boundaries of what’s possible and take us one step closer to a world where cars can actively prevent crashes before they happen.
Bringing together leaders like IIHS, and technology partners like Seeing Machines, DADSS, and other auto suppliers with advocates, lawmakers, and families is exactly what MADD was built to do. For 45 years, we’ve led with a singular mission — to end impaired driving and create a future with no more victims. This anniversary is more than a reflection of progress, it’s a call to action, and a testament to what’s possible when innovation and purpose align.
