Statement on the Driver Charged in Connection to Crash That Claimed the Lives of Khyree Jackson and Friends

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will be following the criminal proceedings of Cori Clingman, who has been charged in connection with the crash that claimed the lives of Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson, 24, and two of his former high school football teammates, Anthony Lytton Jr., 24, and Isaiah Hazel, 23. Clingman faces 13 counts, including negligent vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, and could face up to 30 years in prison if convicted.

This entirely preventable crash serves as a powerful reminder of the devastating consequences of impaired driving. Our thoughts remain with the families of Jackson, Lytton, and Hazel as they continue to cope with this profound loss and work through the ongoing legal process. Losing loved ones in such a senseless and preventable way leaves a lasting void that is felt every day.

Drunk driving fatalities have increased by 33% since 2019, with over 13,000 lives lost in 2022 alone. These numbers underscore the urgent need for action. MADD continues to advocate for anti-drunk driving technology in all new vehicles, as mandated by the HALT Drunk Driving Act. This life-saving technology is expected to prevent over 10,000 deaths annually and hundreds of thousands of injuries.

Our team of compassionate, victim-focused staff and volunteers are available nationwide 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. If you need support, call our Victim Help Line 877.MADD.HELP (1-877-623-3435). In an emergency, dial 911 or your local emergency number immediately.
