Sara Yara Sign Waving Event On February 18, 2024, Sara Yara’s family, friends, classmates, Honolulu Police Department, local officials, community advocates and MADD Hawaii staff and volunteers gathered at Kapiolani and Kamakee for a sign-waving event commemorating the 1st anniversary of Sara’s passing
Sara was struck by a speeding motorist in a marked crosswalk on her way to McKinley High School. Though no DUI arrests were made, Sara Yara’s death, caused by a man with an alarming 164 arrests and no driver’s license, shook the community. We support the bereaved mother’s fight for safer roads.
MADD’s sign-waving events aim to educate the community about preventable deaths and we hope to achieve our vision of No More Victims.
