Alcohol Awareness Week at Savannah State University

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Georgia staff Shermaine Johnson, Victim Services Specialist, and Theresa DeWild, Program Specialist, were invited to participate in Alcohol Awareness Week at Savannah State University in early March. Several other organizations participated in the event which was designed to raise awareness of the risks of alcohol for students and staff and to increase prevention efforts across the campus.

MADD Volunteer Kisha Young attended the event on behalf of MADD and had a memorial table at the event to honor her son who was killed by a drunk driver.

Kisha Young attended Alcohol Awareness Week at Savannah State University with MADD. She had a memorial table in honor of her son, Anthony, who was killed by a drunk driver. Kisha shared her story of losing her son to those in attendance.

MADD had a Victim Services table at the event that illustrated the aftermath of DUI crashes and resources available to victims, along with available opportunities for students to volunteer and get involved to keep our roads and communities safe.

At the conclusion of Alcohol Awareness Week, MADD presented its Power of Parents and Power of You(th) curriculum to attendees, along with dicussing the many ways MADD serves victims of DUI crashes. MADD Volunteer Kisha Young shared her story of losing her son, Anthony, and MADD Program Specialist Theresa DeWild shared her story of losing her sister, Brandy, to a drunk driver.

MADD Georgia presented its Power of Parents and Power of You(th) curriculum to attendees, along with discussing the many ways MADD serves victims affected by DUI crashes.

At the conclusion of Alcohol Awareness Week, MADD Georgia was presented with a certificate of appreciation from Savannah State University for participating in the events.

MADD Georgia looks forward to collaborating more with Savannah State University on future initiatives and providing engaging volunteer opportunities for students in coastal Georgia.
