Bobby Russell Scholarship Award Presented

Isaiah Neal was awarded the Bobby Russell Scholarship Award last month. The award is given in honor of Bobby Russell, Jr., an off-duty firefighter who was killed in 1995 by an impaired driver while working in his yard. The scholarship is awarded annually to a St. Benedict at Auburndale High School student, where Bobby’s own child attended. It is based on application, including an essay, resume, teacher recommendations and transcripts. The selection committee, comprised of representatives of SBA and the Russell family, selects the best application. Isaiah, a junior at SBA, will use the scholarship his senior year.

Accepting with Isaiah ( center left), is his mom Donna (2nd left). Representing the Russell family are Dell Russell-Wallace (Bobby’s wife), SBA rising sophomore and Bobby’s grandson Andrew Culley, Bobby’s daughter Tracy Russell-Culley and Bobby’s granddaughter Sara Culley (SBA ’17). SBA Principal Sondra Morris made the presentation during the May 16 Awards Day ceremony. Congratulations, Isaiah!
