SRO Steffonie Cockerill MADD Hero
A member of the Lexington Police Department has consistently gone above and beyond when it comes to supporting victims and MADD SC. School Resource Officer Steffonie Cockerill has served on our Columbia Walk Like MADD committee for the past 3 years. She knows first hand the pain caused by drunk driving having been a victim herself in her early teens.
Steffonie’s dedication to victims has twice in four months crossed over into her second position with the department as a National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration Certified Child Passenger Seat Technician. She also serves as the Lexington County Coalition Coordinator for Safe Kids. When children are involved in car crashes, those car seats can no longer continue to be used. Steffonie has stepped up and answered the call of MADD Victim Services Specialist Kimberly Cockrell on two separate weekends (once leaving her pool on Labor Day) to provide car seats for families devastated by DUI crashes. These children could not be released from the hospital until their families had usable, safe car seats.
MADD SC is grateful to Steffonie and her family for their service that extends well past her normal shift.
