Tie One On For Safety This Season

A lot of things have changed in the past 31 years. In 1986, Ronald Regan was president. Bill Clinton was the governor of Arkansas. Donald Trump was just a New York City businessman. Madonna was married to Sean Penn and the Chicago Bears were Super Bowl winners. Times have changed. One thing has not, the need to designate a non-drinking driver. MADD starting promoting the designated driver and our red ribbon holiday campaign 31 years ago. We continue to urge the public today to Tie One On For Safety and show your commitment to designating a non-drinking driver to keep everyone safe on the road.

The holidays are one of the most dangerous times on our nation’s roadways. Between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve in 2016, there were 891 drunk driving fatalities across the country, accounting for 26% of all traffic deaths. (2016 NHTSA FARS Data) More people traveling and an increased number of festivities where alcohol is served equals a surge in drunk driving. At MADD Nebraska we hope that you will join us in spreading the message of planning ahead to designate a non-drinking driver if celebrations include alcohol. This simple choice will help make our roads safer than ever this holiday season. The greatest gift all of us could receive is for everyone to make it home safely.
