Happy 35th Birthday MADD Hawaii!
The staff and volunteers at MADD Hawaii planned a few special activities to acknowledge the actual day that marked the founding of MADD in Hawaii. Starting the day, in an effort to share gratitude for the myriad of partners they have worked with over the years to create a state of NO MORE VICTIMS, they visited the Hawaii State Capitol. A team of dedicated volunteers delivered Happy Birthday cupcakes to each legislator, the governor, lieutenant governor and a few other strong supporters of their important law and policy making work at the state capitol. Rep. Della Au Belatti shared on the House floor the news of our anniversary and thanked us for our tireless work on behalf of making Hawaii’s roads safer.
We had fun with the camera man from KHON Channel 2 and it was fun to see us for the traditional Shaka Sign Off not the nightly news! https://youtu.be/syVpO_MgalA
To end the day MADD Hawaii Advisory Board and their significant others gathered a Kathy Weldons’ home to share a meal and a Happy Birthday song and cake. Kelly Bryant and her husband joined us from Texas; Kelly is the MADD Regional Directer and flew in for the activities. It was a very special evening as many who gathered have become close friends over the years – some going back 30 + years. A special tribute was made to Carol McNamee, the MADD Hawaii founder, that acknowledged her, literally, lifesaving work over 3 plus decades. While there is still much to do the group was able to gather and celebrate friendships and acknowledge that their work has and is making a difference.
