MADD Services to Victims and First Responders
Heather Estudillo
MADD National Director of Victim Services
When many people think of MADD, they think of us as a legislative powerhouse, a coalition of passionate people working together with law enforcement and other community partners to prevent these awful crimes from happening. What’s surprising to most, is that we offer free robust case management services to victims and survivors of drunk and drugged driving crashes throughout the US.
MADD offers a 24-Hour Helpline for victims and survivors to have someone to talk to and to seek answers to some of the many questions that bubble up after a crash. It’s also important to note, that same Helpline is available for our dedicated first responders who put their lives on the line everyday as they respond to dangerous calls. MADD recognizes and seeks to honor our partners who see the aftermath of these crashes and provide support them as well. If you are reading this and want to connect a victim to services or just have questions yourself, please feel free to reach out to the Helpline at 1-877-623-3435 (1-877-MADD-HELP).
In addition, one of the resources that we have developed through the years is an online brochure for first responders. What we have heard from many first responders is that sometimes these crashes live with you. When you continue with your work or go home at the end of your shift, sometimes that trauma comes to the surface. The brochure is filled with information about what that can look like, and what might be available to help when you are feeling that impact. I’d encourage you to take a look or share with coworker (even if they never outwardly show that impact). https://online.flippingbook.com/view/220885/
Thank you for what you every day! Your prevention efforts and response efforts after a crash is hugely important and impact many lives. You are appreciated.
