Why We Walk…Ruth McCarthy

On October 13, 2000, Ruth McCarthy was on her way home from dinner with her husband, John, when a drunk driver drove his SUV into their car and split it in half. Ruth was killed instantly and John was critically injured. Ruth and John were a few days away from celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary when the McCarthy family ended up planning her funeral instead. Each crash, each death, each injury impacts not only the person in the crash, but family, friends, classmates, coworkers and more. Even those who haven’t been affected pay the $132 billion yearly price tag of drunk driving. But together we CAN eliminate drunk driving.
