MADD August 2021 Officer of Month
Officer Sergeant Jared Swann
Joplin, MO Police Department
MADD National proudly selects Sergeant Jared Swann as our Officer of the Month for August 2021. Sergeant Swann is a patrol shift supervisor with the Joplin, Missouri Police Department. He has been a member of the Joplin Police Department for eight years. In those short eight years, he has accumulated 1447 impaired driving arrests. That is an impressive average of over 180 arrests per year. Through his diligent efforts, Sergeant Swann has no doubt saved many lives and prevented many impaired driving crashes from occurring.
Sergeant Swann’s passion for impaired driving enforcement comes from a personal tragedy his family suffered in 1999. His brother, Jason Swann, was struck by a drunk driver on December 23, 1999. He suffered disabling injuries requiring constant care from his mother. Jason unfortunately passed away from his injuries a few years later.
Sergeant Swann’s passion for impaired driving enforcement is featured in MADD’s recently released Law Enforcement Impaired Driving Roll Call Video Series. The main roll call video “We can Stop This” and nine companion shorter videos can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/channels/1695972 . The link can also be found on MADD’s Law Enforcement Support webpage at www.madd.org\les.
