MADD Applauds Today’s Vote to Reject the Repeal of the HALT Drunk Driving Law.

January 22, 2026 – MADD applauds today’s vote to reject the repeal of the HALT Drunk Driving Law. This decision puts public safety first and reinforces a shared commitment to preventing tragedies before they happen. At a time when impaired driving deaths remain unacceptably high, Congress chose to prioritize policies that save lives. We thank lawmakers for standing with victims, families, and communities across the country whose lives have been forever upended by this preventable crime.

To the victims and survivors we serve, this work does not pause. MADD will keep advocating for meaningful solutions that save lives, support survivors, and hold impaired drivers accountable. This outcome only strengthens our resolve. We will continue to work with bipartisan leaders to uphold and advance laws like the HALT Act, which will save 10,000 lives each year, and debunk misinformation that will delay progress.
