As of writing, we are particularly\nconcerned about <\/strong><a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+SB489\"><strong>SB 489<\/strong><\/a><strong>. Clicking on the bill number\nwill take you to the Legislative Information System with the most recent\nactions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>allow persons to lawfully drive drunk on their own\n     residential property<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+SB148\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 148<\/a>); Bill continued to 2021\n     session. MADD VA Does NOT Support<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>allow persons convicted of first time DUI (with less than.15\n     BAC) to be afforded a restricted license with an ignition interlock (for\n     12 months) and no restrictions as to where said offender drives<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\"  href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+SB439\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 439<\/a>); MADD Supports<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>allows final disposition of a DUI to be deferred, reduced or\n     dismissed&nbsp;<\/strong><a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+SB489\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>(SB 489)<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;MADD VA Does NOT\n     Support<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>eliminate \u201cmandatory minimum\u201d sentences<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>(including for\n     DUI offenses) effective on July 1, 2020<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+SB537\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 537<\/a>); Bill continued to 2021\n     MADD VA Does NOT Support<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>disallow unlawful driving on a highway, specifically, by\n     those persons whose license was revoked<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+SB798\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 798<\/a>); MADD VA Supports<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>create the Commonwealth Transportation Fund inc. enacting\n     legislation<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>disallowing open containers in motor vehicles,\n     mandating seatbelt use by all persons in a motor vehicle and allowing\n     primary enforcement of such, disallowing use of a \u201chandheld personal\n     communications device\u201d while driving, etc.<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+HB1414\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 1414<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+SB890\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 890<\/a>); MADD VA Supports the\n     provisions requiring primary seat belt law and disallowing open containers<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>enact a spectrum of transportation safety legislation inc.<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>disallowing open\n     containers in motor vehicles, mandating seatbelt use by all persons in a\n     motor vehicle and allowing primary enforcement of such, disallowing use of\n     a \u201chandheld personal communications device\u201d while driving, etc.<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\"  href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+HB1439\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 1439<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+SB907\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SB 907<\/a>); MADD VA Supports the\n     provisions requiring primary seat belt law and disallowing open containers<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>allow persons convicted of first time BAC test refusal to\n     petition the court for a restricted license with both an ignition\n     interlock (for a minimum of six months) and participation in the VASAP\n     program<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+HB34\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 34<\/a>); MADD VA Supports<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>establish the prosecuting venue for persons charged with\n     circumventing an ignition interlock device<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\" href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+HB663\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 663<\/a>); MADD VA Supports<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>lessen the penalties for certain DUI offenses committed by\n     habitual offenders&nbsp;whom have their licenses otherwise revoked<\/strong>&nbsp;(<a class=\"text-red\"  href=\"http:\/\/lis.virginia.gov\/cgi-bin\/legp604.exe?201+sum+HB667\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">HB 667<\/a>); Bill was left in\n     Committee and is dead MADD VA Does NOT Support<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Legislative Update As of the writing of this, February 27, 2020, the following are bills that MADD Virginia has followed during the State Legislative Session.
