Why do we oppose the Limit Minor Compliance Penalties bill?<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

As introduced, this bill, “prohibits a local beer board from issuing multiple citations or civil penalties during a sting operation in which the beer board engages two or more minors to solicit or purchase beer from a permitted establishment.” – Amends TCA Title 57<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n

Serving alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 is illegal. MADD believes that establishments which violate this law should be held accountable each time they do it. Underage drinking is dangerous. Not only does it damage a youth’s growing and developing brain, research shows that the younger someone starts drinking, the more likely they are to become alcohol dependent. Every time a Tennessee restaurant, bar, grocery, or retail store serves an underage patron, they are endangering that youth. This bill would limit an establishment’s liability to a single citation per instance instead of holding them accountable for every youth they are putting at risk.<\/p>\n
