{"id":579,"date":"2018-08-31T18:08:41","date_gmt":"2018-08-31T18:08:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/madd.org\/southwest-florida\/?p=579"},"modified":"2022-05-26T04:48:50","modified_gmt":"2022-05-26T04:48:50","slug":"madd-swfl-supports-law-enforcement-for-labor-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madd.org\/southwest-florida\/madd-swfl-supports-law-enforcement-for-labor-day\/","title":{"rendered":"MADD SWFL Supports Law Enforcement for Labor Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is joining with Southwest Florida law enforcement agencies as part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration\u2019s (NHTSA) national crackdown, <strong>Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The national campaign for stepped up DUI enforcement runs through Labor Day weekend, one of the deadliest times on the road. This year\u2019s campaign adds a new element, <strong>Drive High Get a DUI, <\/strong>which highlights growing concerns about driving while impaired by drugs other than alcohol.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unofficial end of summer is a busy and dangerous period for road travel, and we need everyone to remember to never drive while impaired by alcohol or any other drugs,\u201d said Lori Burke, MADD SWFL Director. \u201cWe can prevent needless deaths and injuries in Southwest Florida by supporting Wolfpacks and Saturations designed to identify drunk and drugged driving in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nationwide in 2016, 10,497 people were killed in crashes involving a driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. During the Labor Day weekend, 36 percent of all traffic deaths (155) were caused by drunk driving.
