SUMMARY:January Virtual Support Group
DESCRIPTION:MADD PENNSYLVANIA WILL BE HOLDING A VIRTUAL SUPPORT GROUP VIA ZOOM FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST LOVED ONES TO DRUNK AND/OR DRUGGED DRIVING ON THE THIRD THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH.\nJanuary 20\, 2022\nPlease email Linda.Sposato@madd.org for zoom link to attend support group.\nOften times in life we experience events which shatter our world. Day to day life\, as we knew it\, is forever altered. Experiencing the traumatic and sudden death of a loved one due to a senseless DUI crash is that life altering event. There is no way to prepare for this type of loss\, but work can be done to heal. Part of the healing process is grieving. Although grieving is very much a private\, complicated\, and individual journey\, there is a shared experience to the grieving process as well. \nMADD believes that victim/survivor support groups are an essential part of the healing journey. Support groups allow for a safe\, non-judgmental environment to share intimate thoughts and feelings. Participants gain insight\, strength\, and support from one another. MADD Pennsylvania  holds a support group for those who have lost loved ones to drunk and/or drugged driving. \nThird Thursday of the Month \n7:00-8:00 PM \n610-825-4902 \nPA.State@madd.org

SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Marsy's Law Crime Victims Rights Amendment (2019)
DESCRIPTION:The Pennsylvania Marsy’s Law Crime Victims Rights Amendment is on the ballot in Pennsylvania as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 5\, 2019. \nA “yes” vote supports this measure to add specific rights of crime victims\, together known as a Marsy’s Law\, to the Pennsylvania Constitution.\nA “no” vote opposes this measure to add specific rights of crime victims\, together known as a Marsy’s Law\, to the Pennsylvania Constitution. \nWhat would this ballot measure change?\nThe ballot measure would add a section addressing crime victims’ rights to the Pennsylvania Constitution Declaration of Rights. The proposed language is modeled on Marsy’s Law\, a type of constitutional bill of rights for crime victims.[1][2] \nThe ballot measure would provide crime victims with specific constitutional rights\, including a right to:[1][2] \n\nbe treated with fairness and respect for the victim’s safety\, dignity\, and privacy;\nproceedings free from unreasonable delay and a prompt and final conclusion of the case;\nhave the safety of the victim and victim’s family considered when setting the bail amount and release conditions for the accused;\nreasonable and timely notice of public proceedings involving the criminal conduct;\nbe present at public proceedings involving the criminal conduct;\nbe heard at proceedings where a right of the victim is implicated\, including release\, sentencing\, and parole proceedings;\nreceive notice of any pretrial disposition of the case\, with the exception of grand jury proceedings;\nprovide information to be considered before the parole of the offender;\nreasonable protection from the accused and those acting on the behalf of the accused;\nreasonable notice of the release or escape of the accused;\nrefuse an interview\, deposition or other discovery request made by the accused;\nfull and timely restitution from the person or entity convicted;\nthe prompt return of property when no longer needed as evidence;\nand confer with the government’s attorney.\n\nThe ballot measure would define crime victim as a person against whom a criminal offense or delinquent act was committed and who was directly harmed by the offense or act.[1][2]
