SUMMARY:MADD PA Hosts Virtual "Celebration of Life"
DESCRIPTION:MADD Pennsylvania Victim Services will host a virtual “Celebration of Life” event via Zoom Video Conference in recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week 2020 on April 19\, 2020 at 11:30AM EST. \n\n\n\nThis virtual event will feature Helen Witty\, MADD’s National President and a special message from Jennifer Storm\, PA Victim Witness Advocate. In addition to these speakers\, three Pennsylvania families will share the impact DUI and DWI has had on their lives through readings especially prepared for this event. MADD Manager of Victim Services\, Mila Hayes\, will also be in attendance outlining the extensive services the organization provides to victims of DUI and DWI. \nThe event will culminate with attendees being asked to share stories of their loves ones. Each attendee should bring a photo to share if they have been impacted and will be offered the opportunity to self-identify if they are a survivor of a crash. \n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is open to victims of all crimes in recognition of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. \n\n\n\nMADD understands the need for privacy and requests that all attendees pre-register for this event in order to attend. \n\n\n\nRegistration: https://madd.zoom.us/join and enter meeting ID 109 414 840 Link not working? SUMMARY:Pennsylvania Marsy's Law Crime Victims Rights Amendment (2019)
DESCRIPTION:The Pennsylvania Marsy’s Law Crime Victims Rights Amendment is on the ballot in Pennsylvania as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment on November 5\, 2019. \nA “yes” vote supports this measure to add specific rights of crime victims\, together known as a Marsy’s Law\, to the Pennsylvania Constitution.\nA “no” vote opposes this measure to add specific rights of crime victims\, together known as a Marsy’s Law\, to the Pennsylvania Constitution. \nWhat would this ballot measure change?\nThe ballot measure would add a section addressing crime victims’ rights to the Pennsylvania Constitution Declaration of Rights. The proposed language is modeled on Marsy’s Law\, a type of constitutional bill of rights for crime victims.[1][2] \nThe ballot measure would provide crime victims with specific constitutional rights\, including a right to:[1][2] \n\nbe treated with fairness and respect for the victim’s safety\, dignity\, and privacy;\nproceedings free from unreasonable delay and a prompt and final conclusion of the case;\nhave the safety of the victim and victim’s family considered when setting the bail amount and release conditions for the accused;\nreasonable and timely notice of public proceedings involving the criminal conduct;\nbe present at public proceedings involving the criminal conduct;\nbe heard at proceedings where a right of the victim is implicated\, including release\, sentencing\, and parole proceedings;\nreceive notice of any pretrial disposition of the case\, with the exception of grand jury proceedings;\nprovide information to be considered before the parole of the offender;\nreasonable protection from the accused and those acting on the behalf of the accused;\nreasonable notice of the release or escape of the accused;\nrefuse an interview\, deposition or other discovery request made by the accused;\nfull and timely restitution from the person or entity convicted;\nthe prompt return of property when no longer needed as evidence;\nand confer with the government’s attorney.\n\nThe ballot measure would define crime victim as a person against whom a criminal offense or delinquent act was committed and who was directly harmed by the offense or act.[1][2]
