Following the murder of DEA Agent Enrique Camarena in 1985, the Red Ribbons serve as a symbol of commitment by youth, parents, and communities to raise awareness on the destruction caused by drugs in America. Agent Camarena stated \u201cI\u2019m only one person, but I want to make a difference.\u201d Agent Camarena\u2019s dedication against the battle of drugs is an inspiration and one that continues to inspire year after year.<\/p><p><strong>How does MADD participate in Red Ribbon Week?<\/strong><br>MADD Missouri is a proud supporter and participant in distributing Red Ribbons each year across the state, especially amongst youth. MADD\u2019s Power of You(th) Program helps us extend our reach across local schools to promote the dangers alcohol and drugs have on our communities. Our Power of You(th) Program works to educate youth on the dangers of underage drinking and promote healthy decision making. MADD empowers youth to take a stand against drinking alcohol before the age 21 and never ride in a car with someone who has been drinking.<\/p><p><strong>Continue to make a difference&#8230;<\/strong><br>Last year during Red Ribbon Week our Program Specialist presented over 30 Power of You(th) presentations, reaching over 750 students! This year we will continue to empower youth to resist peer pressure and influence their peers to make the right choices as well.
