On December 23, 2023, Azalia Park\u2019s family held a sign-waving event in her honor in Halawa at the Intersection of Kahuapaani St. and Ala Alii St. The sign-waving marked the 3-year anniversary of Azalia\u2019s passing when she was struck by a drunk driver on her way to see the Holiday Light Show at Aloha Stadium.\u00a0MADD Hawaii staff and volunteers, family and friends, and HPD were there to support Azalia\u2019s family, and\u00a0most importantly to remind drivers of the importance of driving sober.\u00a0 A sobriety checkpoint was conducted after the sign waving.\u00a0<\/p>

In an ongoing effort to show support for our hard-working police officers, MADD Hawaii and volunteers attended the Martin Luther King Jr. sign-waving event held by Honolulu Police Officers. Holiday 3-day weekends typically show an increase in impaired driving activities. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA), sobriety checkpoints are the top rated Enforcement countermeasure to impaired driving (https:\/\/www.nhtsa.gov\/book\/countermeasures-that-work\/alcohol-impaired-driving\/countermeasures<\/a>).<\/p>
