Mariah Ida Myers<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

On November 4, 2017, community members in Townsend, Georgia gathered at Prospect Baptist Church to celebrate Mariah Ida Myers Day. Mariah Ida Myers lost her life to a drunk driving crash in 2012 when she was 23 years old, but her legacy and passion for working with youth and adolescents lives on. Mariah’s mother, Claudia Johnson-Myers, coordinates the event every year on the first Saturday of November as a day of interaction and fellowship for the community.<\/h4>\n

This year’s event held youth workshops and featured the Savannah State University Wesleyan Gospel Choir during the event’s Evening Showcase. The youth workshops catered to individuals ages 5 and above and included subjects like Arts and Crafts for younger participants, and a Health, Fitness and Nutrition workshop for high school-aged participants. All of the event’s activities share in remembrance of Mariah and her passion for working with youth and adolescents. Mariah was active in her community and in her college, and Mariah Ida Myers Day honors her legacy of service.<\/h4>\n

Shermaine Johnson, Victim Services Specialist, attended Mariah Ida Myers Day on November 4th and had the opportunity to speak about the services Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) offers victims and survivors of drunk or drugged driving crashes. Shermaine provided information about MADD’s prevention and awareness programs across Georgia and networked with local community leaders.<\/h4>\n
