SUMMARY:2019 Under the Dome Day
DESCRIPTION:WHAT:     Mothers Against Drunk Driving® (MADD) Georgia will host their annual legislative day and a press conference at the Capitol to highlight the continued increase in drunk driving deaths in Georgia. Drunk Driving REMAINS the #1 cause of death on our roadways in the United States. A press conference\, a rally and a moment of silence will take place inside Georgia State Capitol to raise awareness of MADD victim services\, and to let victims know that they always have a place at MADD. \n  \nWHEN:     February 26\, 2019 \n                1:00PM \n  \nWHERE:    Georgia State Capitol \n                 2nd Floor\, South Wing \n  \nWHO:       The following people will be in attendance: \n\nHelen Witty\, MADD National President\nSenator Donzella James\, GA State Senate\, 35th District\nNatasha Mitchell\, Victim Speaker\, MADD State Advisory Council member\nJeana Fortenberry\, Victim Speaker\nLisa Gilmer\, Victim Speaker\n\n  \nWHY:      In 2017\, 366 people in Georgia were killed in drunk driving crashes. It is a leading killer on Georgia roadways\, killing 15\,461 people since 1982. Additionally\, Nationwide\, ONE PERSON IS KILLED every 48 minutes and EVERY 2 MINUTES someone is injured in the United States. \n  \nLawmakers must take action to protect the rights of Georgia residents by enacting legislation that would make Georgia the 33rd state to require the use of ignition interlocks for anyone who seeks driving privileges after a DUI. Georgia also should mandate the use of ignition interlocks for anyone who refuses an alcohol test and seeks driving privileges during an administrative license suspension or the suspected drunk driver simply cannot drive — a law in 31 states already. \n  \nMADD supports drunk and drugged driving victims and survivors at no charge\, serving one person every 3 minutes through local MADD victim advocates and at 1-877-MADD-HELP. \n  \n

Through this program\, youth learn why it is important to stay away from alcohol and other drugs\, and they also learn real life strategies.\nRSVP for MADD Georgia’s complimentary POP/POY workshop by e-mailing Kali Robinson\, Program Specialist\, at Kali.Robinson@madd.org or through calling the MADD Georgia State Office at 770-615-3737. SUMMARY:16th Annual Golden Shield Honors
DESCRIPTION:In light of ongoing developments resulting from the coronavirus (COVID-19) and the national move to delay or cancel large group gatherings as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization\, Mothers Against Drunk Driving has suspended all events until further notice.  Unfortunately\, this includes our annual Golden Shield Honors luncheon scheduled for April 15th\, 2020. \nMADD is committed to the health and well-being of all families of our community\, and we are taking this action to do our part to help slow the rate of infection and mitigate the risk that COVID-19 poses to Atlanta. \nWe will reassess at the beginning of April and will be in touch\, as we continue to follow guidelines from public health officials.  As always\, we thank you for your service and commitment to keeping our roadways safe!
